Hummingbird House Cafe

Something new and different has opened up shop in one of the oldest buildings on Capistrano's oldest streets:Hummingburd House Cafe.Owners Milen Tsekov and Mariana Artatchka opened their doors in the 1878 Combs House, right at the train stop, on the west side of the tracks, on March 4. They serve coffe, sandwiches, wraps, hummus dips and Mediterranean desserts. "It's a unique place," said Tsekov, who makes the sesserts and other treats fresh each morning and also hand-crafts every sandwich and wrap. "The building' unique, it's a piece of history." Coffe is $1.75 for a large and most lunch items-we shared a buffalo chicken wrap and Cesar chicken sandwich in the peace of the cobblestone dining area out back-are about $7.95, making the meal affordable. We also tried the hummus dip, which was served with hot pita bread and was a great change from the usual chips-and-salsa fare. Between the rustic setting, the train rumbling by and the nostalgia of the Historic Los Rios District, Hummingbird House Cafe also served up a flavor of a simpler time gone by.
